Orifice
The Sandstone block with the orifice is inclined, so that the jet is directed downwards at twenty degrees to the horizontal:
The diameter of the hole is 0.155 m. (6.1 inches). The hole appears to have been bored for part of the way only. Behind the bored part there is a slot or channel cut from the top of the block, the top of this slot is filled by a small tightly fitting block of stone. When found the orifice was blocked by timber and stones:
The oak beam is visible in the water below the orifice block
